My name is Yolanda. I currently reside in Richmond, CA. I have over three years experience in care-giving specializing in 24-hour care.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was inspired by my grandmother. I took care of my grandmother and my grandfather for two years before they passed. After that, I went into the field of care-giving for other family members and also for private care and working for companies throughout the years. I enjoy what I do. I enjoy taking care of seniors, elders, children, people that need to have care for.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice would be to a new caregiver is to have patience, listen, and have empathy, and understand that they are going through a transition that they have never been through before. And in this field you need to be compassionate, loving, and caring, and thoughtful of the people and clients that you are taking care of because that is someone's loved one and you want them to treat you just as well as you would treat their family member.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I will never forget Jane. She was 103 years old. She was sweet, loving, and caring. I loved having tea with her. She enjoyed tea time. She would make delicious sandwiches. We would talk about her war stories. We would reminisce about old times, look at old films. She just taught me a lot. She enjoyed watching the deers, coming to her balcony and the wild turkey. Just a great woman. Just a very, very inspiring and loving and caring. I will never forget Jane.
