Hello, my name is Yvette. I live in Riverbank, CA, and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love helping people. I've had family who've needed a caregiver, and I've been the one to be the caregiver, and my mother used to be a caregiver, so I've always been interested in the position.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient, to be kind, and to remember that they need the help, and if you needed the help, you would want that help.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was this little, old lady named Jean. She went into a home after a while, because her husband could no longer handle her behaviors, but I did have a very rewarding experience with her. She taught me patience. She taught me compassion. She had Alzheimer's, and she would hit a lot, and I would get overwhelmed with her hitting, but one day she looked at me square in the eye and said, "Hey little girl, I love you." And she really doesn't speak, and itself was rewarding.
